As we start a new year, Pantone’s Spring 2013 Fashion Color Report has retailers pinpointing the top trends which will dominate the upcoming season. Apparel companies, online retailers, and fashion stores are finalizing their product lines and discussing how it might affect 2013’s packaging. On-trend companies will consider matching their product line to their packaging, including in color, design, and effects.
Pantone’s Spring 2013 Fashion Report
Fashion forward retailers, such as Urban Outfitters and Loft look to Pantone’s Spring 2013 report, clothing colors and trends to inform their packaging choices. In 2012, Pantone’s Tangerine 17-1463 was declared the color of the year. The color was adopted within clothing lines, furniture fabrics, home décor accessories, and jewelry.
In 2013, Pantone has named Emerald 17-5641 to be the color of the year. A wise retailer would acknowledge this prediction. Even if the color does not appear in the product line, a complementary color could be chosen for packaging.
Trends for 2013
It is hard to find anyone to agree on the fashion trends for each year, but several will eventually rise to the top. At fashion shows in Europe and the United State, several trends are popping up regularly. Consider incorporating one of these fashion trends into your product packaging line:
- Bold graphics and asymmetrical prints
- Iridescent sheens including metals, holographics, and prism-like finishes
- Fluorescent, eye-popping colors
- Retro designs, especially from the 1960s and 1990s
- Stripes of any size and color
Consider refreshing your packaging selections with an eye towards current trends and take advantage of the hottest designs and special effects.
